Private-label powerhouse retailer Trader Joe’s, Monrovia, Calif., took egg nog to a new level this holiday season with the introduction of a chocolate-flavored variety. This innovative concept uses all the traditional egg nog ingredients and spices, including milk, cream, egg yolks and nutmeg, but adds the dimension of chocolate powder. The company positions the drink as decadent and rich. There’s nothing low-fat or low-calorie about it. In fact, a serving is identified as a half-cup, with each serving delivering 190 calories, 9 grams fat and 16 grams sugar.
