Amcor PET Packaging announces size additions to its stock heat-set polyethylene terephthalate (PET) line. The new sizes are a panel-less, rectangular gallon and single-serve 500 ml (16.9 ounces), 12- and 10-ounce bottles. The gallon offers improved cube efficiency and a pinch-grip feature. The rectangular shape enables an efficient "cubing" or palletizing of the bottle vs. round gallons. It also provides a wider front facing for greater shelf impact. The pinch-grip feature offers the consumer easier handling and pouring when compared to round alternatives. The smaller 10- and 12-ounce sizes have a five-panel design that minimizes "ovalization," which can occur after a standard hot-fill, six-panel bottle is cooled and subjected to the affects of vacuum. Ideal applications for the new sizes include juices, isotonics, teas, functional waters, and other beverages.

ABC Model 136 tape sealer has a compact size (6-feet long) and handles 25 cases per minute. The heavy gauge frame is manufactured of stainless steel with a solid, box-style construction, welded and bolted for maximum strength. Clear, electrically-interlocked sliding doors provide complete protection. Maintenance is minimized by the use of sealed bearings throughout the machine, and an air regulator/water eliminator keeps the minor flap tucker air supply line dry for smooth operation. A wide case range makes the Model 136 suitable for a variety of packaging applications.

A new labeling solution that helps companies meet major-retailer and Department of Defense (DOD) RFID and bar-code identification requirements is now available from Avery Dennison Printer Systems. The solution consists of scalable ItemSight software bundled with a scanner, plus optional label production systems. The label production options include Avery Dennison's AP5.4 and 64xx series printers, and ALX print/apply systems. The software and scanner, along with optional printers, enable users to convert existing bar code container labels into labels that meet retailers' and DOD bar code and/or RFID product identification requirements. In operation, a user simply scans the bar code that currently exists on a container. The program is scalable to fit user requirements. Companies can start with the basic program and then scale up as production levels increase. In addition, the program features data-logging and integration capabilities. Users can create and save databases that contain the original scanned data and the converted files.

Convey-N-Weigh conveyor incorporates a continuous pulse jet clean filter, live bin discharger for powder conditioning and a precision feeder with entire assembly mounted on load cells. By densifying solids with live bin, greater accuracy is achieved by introducing a powder with consistent bulk density to feeding chamber. A baffle mounted over outlet of live bin also prevents bridging of solids. Convey-N-Weigh utilizes an adjustable gain-in-weight fill. Different materials will achieve greater accuracy by controlling the filling of unit before discharging batch. Adjustable discharge modes that include live bin control sequencing, and feeder speed and jog produce incredible flexibility and batch size control. Quick access to filter media is done through horizontal configuration of plenum. Once clean air plenum is released, the entire assembly can be pulled and hinged out of the way for interior housing inspection or service. A set of slide bars riding in linear bearings makes this task ergonomic and safe. With filter media serviced on outside of housing, operators need not enter into a confined space for service.

    Span Tech

SpanTech LLC has developed a solution to the problem of white chain material being discolored by black oxide buildup from the stainless steel linking rods. The proprietary technology allows users to benefit from the strength and durability provided by stainless steel rods, allowing the white acetal chain to remain white. The technology is available on all models of SpanTech's Designer System and WhisperTrax Modular Flexible Conveyor lines.

With the new InPro 8600 series, Mettler-Toledo Ingold introduces a technology platform for the measurement of turbidity in hygienic applications. The turbidity sensors are based on combined 25° (forward)/90° (sideward) scattered light technology, which enable measurements in liquids that seem to be clear to the human eye. Distinction between turbidity caused by colloidal and larger particles is made possible with the dual angle measurement. The InPro 8600 is designed as a single-head sensor. It is installed in less than a minute. The turbidity sensors use Plug and Measure for fast installation and set-up, and advanced diagnostic functionalities to reduce maintenance time.
