Bioplus enlists Mays to launch Solo sucralose

Bioplus Life Sciences, the manufacturer of Solo sucralose based in Bangalore India, has formed a strategic exclusive North American marketing and distribution alliance with Mays Chemical Co., the 18th largest chemical distribution company in the United States.

Bioplus Life Sciences, the manufacturer of Solo sucralose based in Bangalore India, has formed a strategic exclusive North American marketing and distribution alliance with Mays Chemical Co., the 18th largest chemical distribution company in the United States. The agreement will see Mays become the sole representative of the sugar alternative ingredient Solo sucralose in the United States. Mays will provide USP and FCC powder, granular and 25% liquid forms of Solo sucralose for the North American food, beverage, pharmaceutical and nutritional marketplace from its headquarters in Indianapolis, and from satellite operations across the country. Mays will market Solo as a viable high-quality alternative for its existing customer base, as well as attracting new customers into the business.

BioPlus and Mays Chemical will offer Solo as a high-purity alternative to the current offering currently available. Solo meets or exceeds all of the analytical specifications formally established and published by the FDA for the commercial sale and use of sucralose by USP, FCC and JECFA for total product purity as well as all related sensory criteria.

The availability of a new, reliable, high-quality source of sucralose produced by BioPlus at its emission-free, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in India will eliminate the quality and legal risks associated with sourcing and using sucralose being marketed by suppliers other than Tate & Lyle.

BioPlus believes that significant risk exists for users of non-patented suppliers of sucralose, related to product quality and specifications, total purity, non-sucralose contaminants and actual production site traceability.

Furthermore, in addition to the potential risk of IP indemnification there is the prospect of future patent and IP infringement issues when the 28 BioPlus patent applications are issued over the next 12 to 24 months.

“BioPlus Life Sciences is delighted to partner with Mays Chemical Company for the marketing and distribution of Solo sucralose in North America,” says Joe Zannoni, VP for Bioplus Life Sciences. “Mays Chemical has a 30-year history in the ingredient market and an enviable reputation in this marketplace. Mays offers BioPlus the opportunity to leverage long-standing supply relationships with many of the worlds leading companies, as well as established distribution and logistics infrastructure and customer support and service staff.”

John Hulsey, director, supplier relations and purchasing, Mays Chemical Co., says: “Mays’ senior management team has been very impressed with the overall project planning and implementation that culminated in Bioplus’ entering the sucralose market.   Many of our existing customers need the supply assurance that comes with a legitimate second source of sucralose and we are pleased to help meet that need. Mays has an extensive food, beverage and pharmaceutical customer base and therefore feel that we are well positioned to assist Bioplus in bringing Solo sucralose to market. We are delighted to add this product to our existing ingredients portfolio and look forward to continuing to offer an exceptional level of service to both existing and new customers.”
