Weidenhammer, Spiess Kunststoffe announce JV in KC

IML Packaging Solutions is a joint venture between two of Germany’s most respected family-held packaging companies, Spiess Kunstsoffe and Weidenhammer Packaging.

IML Packaging Solutions is a joint venture between two of Germany’s most respected family-held packaging companies, Spiess Kunstsoffe and Weidenhammer Packaging. The companies together bring more than 80 years of plastic packaging experience and mold making to the U.S. market. These two companies have for decades supplied some of the Europe’s largest consumer product companies with in mold labeled products.

“Weidenhammer had a hygienic, centrally located facility in Kansas City,” said Michael Spiess, co-director of the joint venture. “We believe that the U.S. market is ready to expand faster into specialized in-mold label containers, and we wanted to bring our designs, mold making and experience making high-quality injection mold containers to the U.S. market.”

Ralf Weidenhammer, managing director of Weidenhammer Packungen, adds: “We saw a good opportunity to partner with Spiess in a burgeoning large market. This fit between our two companies is very good and we have decades of experience with in-mold labeling. We think it is a great opportunity to use our thin wall technology, labeling and mold making to bring cost-effective products of unique design and technological attributes to the U.S.”

The machinery installation is scheduled to support existing contracts in the fall of 2010.
