    Here is a sneak peek at what dairy suppliers are up to.


    Sensient Colors’ latest innovations include state-of-the-art aseptic packaging and the development of Microfine Natural Colors, a host of natural colors for powder applications, including dry mix beverages. Using Microfine Dry Color technology, the Microfine Natural Colors line optimizes natural color shades. Sensient also made a capital investment to add aseptic packaging capabilities that offer beverage developers preservative-free colors with extended shelf life and sustainability. Additionally, Sensient achieved Level 3 Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification.

    D.D. Williamson announces its annual Natural Coloring Competition for Students to encourage learning about naturally derived coloring. Two winners will receive a domestic trip to the 2012 IFT Food Expo, June 25-28 in Las Vegas, where they’ll be able to display their project poster in the D.D. Williamson’s booth. Winners will be selected in two categories – 1) Food Application and 2) Beverage Application. Abstract submissions are due Nov. 14, and winners will be announced by April 15.     Beneo announced an 8% price increase for its prebiotic fibers, inulin and oligofructose, as of January 2012. Beneo’s inulin and oligofructose are prebiotic fibres improving the balance of the body’s intestinal flora by stimulating beneficial bifidobacteria. At the same time, they replace fat or sugar and can reduce the caloric value without altering taste and texture.

    GEA Niro is working hand-in-hand with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) to simulate the fluid dynamics that take place within a full-sized spray dryer. The simulation will use a scaled-down model with water instead of air, and allows experiments to be performed at a laboratory level that would otherwise require full-scale equipment of several meters in all dimensions. The data gathered will help GEA Niro refine the development of its spray drying equipment.

    Intelligrated opened a technology repair services lab at the company's Cincinnati customer service and support center. The lab features five workstations dedicated to electronics and computer repair services, as well as a hands-on troubleshooting environment that provides up to 50% faster issue resolution time. The lab also provides in-house repair services for Intelligrated’s Real Time Solutions pick-to-light devices, industrial BOSS controllers, enterprise-class InControlWare servers and various other system components. The lab also fabricates custom cables for both replacement or retrofit field projects, and features a programming service to load custom firmware and site-specific programs into industry standard field devices.

    Siemens launched a “Measuring Success” tour, a 53-foot mobile showcase featuring a broad portfolio of process instrumentation, process analyzers and process automation products and solutions. The showcase also highlights the company’s Totally Integrated Automation by demonstrating how information can be shared seamlessly to improve customer operations. The measuring success showcase features a control room, process area, instrument shop and analytics shelter.     On the Move: Personnel Changes

    Takasago Flavor, Rockleigh, N.J.
    Dulce Paredes was named vice president of consumer insights and market research, bringing consumer focus into the innovation and strategic business goals of the organization. Before joining Takasago, she led Avon Products’ global R&D consumer sciences group, where she guided their consumer and product testing team that supported global strategy for the company’s skin care, color cosmetics, fragrance, hair care and personal care products. Prior to Avon, Paredes was program manager, technology guidance research at Kraft Foods, where she managed sensory and consumer testing for the company’s East Coast-based businesses. Before Kraft, she worked at PepsiCo as a product developer for international Pepsi brands and as a principal research specialist, conducting extensive research on sweeteners, taste and consumer understanding.

    Kendall Packaging Corp., Mequon, Wis.
    David Wiseley joined on as area sales manager, responsible for selling the company’s products, developing and securing new customers, managing the existing customer base and overseeing customer service. Wiseley recently was a national account manager for Exopack, LLC, where he managed key accounts and received Exopack’s “Exceptional Sales Performance Award” for value-added selling and delivering exceptional business growth.

    TricorBraun, St. Louis, Mo.
    Jad Darsey was named director of sustainability and plastics, responsible for evaluating new packaging technology and assisting customers with material choices and package designs that will enable them to improve their sustainability programs.

    TZA, Long Grove, Ill.
    George Huhta joined as director of marketing, responsible for marketing, communications, public relations and business development activities. He will also direct the firm's marketing and business development staff to further develop and enhance TZA's brand and presence in the supply chain marketplace.
