    New Sterilization Units For Caps, Cups

    Claranor, Avignon, France, introduced its sterilization units for caps and cups at the 2010 PackExpo in Chicago.

    Claranor, Avignon, France, introduced its sterilization units for caps and cups at the 2010 PackExpo in Chicago. The company has developed a clean, dry and chemical-free solution for the disinfection of packaging based on the technology of pulsed light.

    Pulsed light uses the bactericidal effect of UV rays, applied through very short and powerful flashes to decontaminate the surfaces of packaging materials. The first industrial installations in the beverage industry include Nestlé water plants in several countries.

    Building upon its success in treating the caps before capping for products such as flavored waters, juices and soft drinks, Claranor has recently installed its first unit at a dairy for bottled milk packaging, yielding a microbiological reduction guarantee of 3 log on A. niger, on the inside of the caps.
