GEA Process Engineering wins big Chinese contracts

    July 28, 2009
GEA Process Engineering has received an order in excess of  EUR 17 million  from Feihe  Dairy, one of  the  fast  growing  dairy companies in China.

GEA Process Engineering has received an order in excess of  EUR 17 million  from Feihe  Dairy, one of  the  fast  growing  dairy companies in China.

GEA will  supply  process  know-how,  technology,  equipment  and  installation of production  plants  for  production  of  whole  milk  powder  and  infant  formula powder, as  well  as  training  of  local  Feihe  production  staff.

Feihe  Dairy  has formerly  used  GEA  Process  Engineering  as  its  supplier  for  its first infant  formula project  in  China  three  years  ago,  and  the  company  considers  GEA a strategic  partner  and  expects  the  partnership  to  continue  well beyond  the new projects.

Feihe  Dairy,  owned  by  American  Dairy  Inc.,  is  extending  its  facilities  with  two new  production  plants  to  capture  the  opportunities  in  the  wake  of  last  year’s melamine  scandal  on  the  Chinese  dairy  market.  The  contracts  are  the  first  major projects  on  the  Chinese  dairy  market  since  the  scandal,  which  cost  Sanlu,  the largest  milk  powder  producer  in  China,  its  business.

Both  plants  will  be  installed  in  Heilongjiang  province;  one  in  Gannan  and  the other  one  close  by  in  Longjiang.  The  plant  in  Gannan,  which  will  supplement  an existing  plant  and  is  expected  be  completed  in  the  fall  2010,  will  be  able  to produce  50  tons  of  whole  milk  powder  or  80  tons of  infant  formula  powder  per day.   The  new  plant  in  Longjiang,  expected  to  be  ready  for  use  during  the  winter of  2010,  will  obtain  a  production  capacity  of  62  ton  of  whole  milk  powder  per day  or  100  ton  of  infant  formula  powder.
