SAN ANTONIO—The Dairy Distribution Conference got right back into the swing recently with a meeting in San Antonio that attracted more than 120 dairy and ice cream logistics professionals.

This year’s was the first after a two year hiatus.

“In all the feedback I have gotten from everyone, without a doubt, it was one of the best programs and the feedback was consistently good for all the sessions,” says DDC’s Don Wilson. “We would have liked to have had more attendees, but in speaking with everyone they felt that we had a very quality group in terms of having individuals from excellent dairy companies.”

The program included sessions on:
  • Dealing with continuous change
  • Homeland Security’s Highway Watch Program
  • Managing both the X and Y generations
  • New fuels and engines
A big part of each conference is the vocational tour, and this year the conference visited a state-of-the-art fleet maintenance facility owned by H-E-B Grocery. It’s a facility that left many attendees feeling a bit envious.

“They’re doing things that other folks would love to be able to do,” Wilson said.

The conference, co-sponsored by Dairy Foods, also included a Saturday golf event, and various outings and opportunities for attendees and spouses.

Wilson said he hopes that more outstanding facilities can be identified by the DCC organizers for future conferences. In a letter to attendees he asked that anyone interested contact him with suggestions, and so far there have been some good responses, he says.

Wilson said he and the conference’s steering committee welcome suggestions from throughout the industry regarding tour candidates and other aspects of the conference. He can be reached at 972/937-2442.
