Life Takes, Oakhurst Gives

Oakhurst Dairy honored its pledge again last year to give 10% of its pre-tax profits to help children and protect the environment. In 2005, the Portland, Maine-based dairy supported not-for-profit groups including the United Way, The Salvation Army, 4-H, the Boys & Girls Club, and the YMCA.


Do Them a Flavor

Ben & Jerry’s is offering consumers the chance to become an “honorary Flavor Guru and create an original, ice cream flavor. A contest that kicked off last month and runs through July will culminate with five finalists visiting Vermont to vie for the grand prize of having their own flavor join the ranks of Chunky Monkey and Phish Food.


Happy Anniversaries

Norseland, Inc., importer/ distributor of Jarlsberg cheese is marking the 50th anniversary of the cheese this year, and it is the 125th of Tine B.A. Norwegian Dairies, Jarlsberg’s source. Special sales promotions are being carried out through brokers and retailers.


More Milk?

Monsanto won USDA approval last month to begin manufacturing Posilac growth hormone at a facility in Georgia. The company was forced to ration product to customers in recent years due to various supply chain problems.


And the winner is…

Emmentaler Switzerland Premier Cru—the winner of the 2006 World Championship Cheese Contest that is. Walo von Muhlenen, cheesemaker at von Muhlenen Ltd. in Dudingen Switzerland, made the cheese which can now be called the best cheese in the world, according to the Wisconsin contests’ organizers.
