PCRM Files Suit Against Healthy Weight Campaign

WASHINGTON—The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) has filed two lawsuits against, IDFA, DMI, and several dairy companies that are licensed to use the claims of the Healthy Weight with Dairy campaign.

PCRM, which the food industry characterizes as a front for animal rights activism, says the claims associated with Healthy Weight are misleading. The suits—one for monetary damages, the other a class-action suit seeking injunctive relief—were filed in Circuit Court in Virginia on behalf of a PCRM member who claims to have actually gained weight while following the recommendations.

Earlier this year PCRM filed a similar complaint with FDA and the Federal Trade Commission asking that the campaign be stopped.
