Breyers offers recipes that allow consumers to make their own ice cream cakes in the comfort of their own kitchen, says executive editor Marina Mayer.




I’ve always wondered how I could make an ice cream cake at home, but the pure thought of it melting off the countertops and into the insides of my cabinets just frightens me. Then there’s the whole process of clearing out the freezer to find space, and then finding a way to serve it without it creating a puddle of yumminess on the floor.

Seems like too much hassle for its own good.

Or is it?

Now consumers can create ice cream cakes at home without all the messy drips and drabs.

Breyers, owned by Unilever, Englewood Cliffs, N.J., launched a “make your party cake and eat it too” how-to recipe that incorporates any of the 12 Breyers Blasts flavors, such as Snickers, Oreo and Reese’s, among others.

To start, take one container (1.5 quart) of the Breyers Blasts lineup, cut out the sides of the carton and then arrange upside down on a chilled serving platter. Gently slide off the packaging and cover the ice cream log with thawed whipped cream and garnish with sprinkles and other frosting, as desired.

Prep time is 10 minutes and it serves 12 people.
