Ice cream marketers scoop out consumer savings in this week's FSIs

Ice cream marketers Nestle, Dove, Carvel and Cold Stone Creamery serve coupon savings and sweepstakes; Kraft andYum! Brands team up just in time for Cinco de Mayo; and Saputo’s Frigo brand launches a sweeps.



FSI report for the week beginning May 1, 2011

After taking Easter weekend off, dairy brands were back in the free-standing inserts, with ice cream and cheese marketers particularly active.

Nestlé
promotes its ice cream sandwiches, cones and bars under the headline “Celebrate summer with sweet savings.” It offers a $1 coupon toward the purchase of any two SKUs and directs shoppers to its Facebook page where they can collect a $1 coupon toward an 8-count Drumstick SKU. In some markets,
Safeway’s
Dominick’s stores takes a co-FSI. Mars Chocolate’s Dove dangles a $1 coupon toward the purchase of any Dovebar multipack, Dove miniatures or Dove ice cream SKU. The FSI includes the Facebook logo. In some markets, Walgreens offers a 50-cent coupon for a Singles SKU.
 
Celebration Foods’ Carvel announces the “Perfect Moments” instant-win game and sweepstakes, awarding a $5,000 “shopping spree” at Best Buy (delivered as 250,000 Reward Zone program points from the electronics retailer). Contestants enter on-pack game codes online. Instant-win entries are automatically entered into the sweepstakes. Other prizes includes one $1,000 Best Buy Reward Zone program reward certificate (50,000 Reward Zone program points), 25 $100 reward certificates, 50 $50 reward certificates, 200 $20 reward certificates and 275 store coupons valid for one Carvel ice cream cake (maximum value of $19.99). Cold Stone Creamery suggests an ice cream cake for the upcoming Mother’s Day celebration. The unit of Kahala Management offers a two-cakes-for $5 coupon and two other coupons totaling $4.
 
J&J Snack Foods promotes its 100-calorie-per-cup Luigi’s Italian ice, along with its Superpretzel snack.


In cheese, it's Saputo, Kraft and DiGiorno

In the cheese category, Saputo Cheese’s Frigo launches its “Camp Takin’ It Cheesy” sweepstakes, which awards a weekly $1,000 prize (in the form of a check, ostensibly for summer camp). Entry is online. Ten daily drawing prizes of a cooler bag (valued at $12) will be awarded. The sweepstakes ends July 2. Details at https://frigocheeseheadscamp.amssupport.net/Public/Intro.aspx

 

Kraft Foods and Yum! Brands’ Taco Bell team up on a promotion timed for the May 5 Cinco de Mayo celebration. The FSI instructs shoppers to “Treat your family to a fiesta!” with its Mexican taco natural cheese and Taco Bell Home Originals products. A 75-cent coupon can be used on any Home Originals SKU (excluding salsas).

 

Nestle’s Digiorno’s boasts that its pizza is “stuffed with cheese.”



In other FSI activity this week

  • Dannon Co. promotes its Activia Parfait Crunch yogurts.
  • General Mills states its Yoplait Greek yogurt contains twice the protein of regular yogurt.
  • Abbott Nutrition offers savings of up to $12 on its Ensure beverages made with milk protein concentrate.
