Manager-Davis-Dairy Plant, SDSU
Steve Beckman is the Manager of the Davis Dairy Plant, and Manager of the Institute for Dairy Ingredient Processing (IDIP) at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Steve holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Food Science and Technology, and is currently working towards his Ph.D. in Dairy Science Manufacturing. His research interests focus on the use of membranes and other novel technologies for the efficient fractionation of milk and food products. Since 2014, Steve has managed the IDIP at SDSU, and he’s had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, many of the companies and people who attend this forum. Now, managing the Davis Dairy Plant, he has the opportunity and responsibility to train and develop the next generation of food processing professionals.
Steve will focus on two main topics during my presentation. Over the past 9 years, he has had the opportunity to originate, conduct, and report on many variations of membrane and pilot food production research. With that experience, he will share with the audience some of the tips, tricks, and techniques he has learned to better prepare for conducting foundation-building membrane research applied to food. Also, in the University setting, training and educating student-employees to the nuance of food processing research takes on an urgent necessity. He wants to take this opportunity and use this platform to share with the audience ways he thinks industry and academia can join together to develop and foster the next generations of leaders in the food processing, specifically membrane filtration area. Let’s work together to conduct great research and pilot projects, while simultaneously inspiring our future.
