Product Manager, GEA Systems North America
Mark Braun started his journey in membrane filtration 34 years ago in the process engineering department of a European membrane company. He has been working at GEA for several years previously developing overseas membrane filtration markets in Latin America and Asia and presently working as Product Manager leading global development and innovation of membrane filtration with focus on several applications including food, dairy, beverage, biotechnology and chemical.
The progressively shifting outlook towards clean environment coupled with regulations have put the focus on processing of industrial byproducts and effluents. While some of these byproducts and effluents can be used to extract valuable products or ingredients, others can be reused or recycled inside the factory. Purification and concentration of byproducts and effluents are challenging separation steps which requires meticulous study and planning before commitment to investment. The ability of different membranes to clarify, fractionate and concentrate in addition to their easy scalability are useful attributes which have been successfully applied for value addition to several byproducts and effluents.
