The small town of Arkansas City, Kan., also known as Ark City, is home to the Cowley County Waterfall, which Yahoo Travel included in its 2014 "Top 12 Most Beautiful Waterfalls in America" list. It is also home to a decidedly less touristy, but arguably equally fascinating, "attraction": a KanPak US dairy processing facility that employs aseptic technologies to create custom shelf-stable liquid-based products for quick-service restaurants, retail and other customers.
The use of aseptic packaging by dairy processors is on the rise as operators seek newer solutions for enhancing food safety while reducing waste and operating expenses.
The aseptic packaging market is picking up steam. Sector sales for the dairy industry will reach $24.6 billion globally by 2024, up from $14 billion in 2017, projects Transparency Market Research, an Albany, N.Y.-based market intelligence firm.
Tetra Pak, a supplier of aseptic packaging and processing equipment, advises dairy and nondairy beverage processors on formulas, formats and manufacturing procedures. Dairy Foods visited the Texas operation.
