Membrane filtration can economically and efficiently be applied to clean, reuse or add value to the industrial byproducts and effluents. While some of these byproducts and effluents can be used to extract valuable products or ingredients, others can be reused or recycled inside the factory. Purification and concentration of byproducts and effluents are challenging separation steps which requires meticulous study and planning before commitment to investment. The ability of different membranes to clarify, fractionate and concentrate in addition to their easy scalability are useful attributes which have been successfully applied adding sustainability to several processes.
