Morinaga Nutritional Foods Inc., Torrance, Calif., introduced a line of Alove brand low-fat drinkable aloe vera Japanese-style yogurts at the Natural Products Expo West show in March. They're available in three flavors: original aloe vera, coconut and strawberry banana.

The yogurt drinks are made with the same aloe vera gel pieces featured in the original line of Alove yogurt cups. Morinaga Nutritional Foods uses a proprietary process to remove the best pieces of aloe vera gel from premium aloe vera plant leaves, which are then mixed with the yogurt, the company said. The yogurt is kosher and made with no artificial flavors.

The drinkable yogurts are sold in 7-ounce bottles for a suggested retail price of $1.99 to $2.19. The nutritional labels for the drinkables are still going through final regulatory approval, but will be comparable to the yogurt cups, the company said. The drinkables are expected to be in stores in June.

The company also added three new flavors (peach, kiwi and vanilla) to its aloe vera yogurt cup line in January, bringing the selection of flavors to six. Alove aloe vera yogurt cups are currently available in more than 450 stores, with distribution rapidly expanding from the west coast across the United States.
