The European Commission said it is taking Germany to the EU's highest court over its failure to apply the protected trademark "Parmigiano Reggiano" correctly to brands of cheese. EU legislation on protected designations of origin provides for the application of this trademark to parmesan cheese that is produced exclusively in a certain region of Italy and to certain specifications.
