Greek dairy company, Fage Dairy Industry S.A., will invest $27 million to build a yogurt facility in Johnstown, N.Y. Fage has been making and marketing yogurt, and related products since 1920.
Milk Plant to Close
Roberts Dairy Co., plans to close and sell its Des Moines, Iowa, milk processing plant. By next month, milk processing will move to Omaha, Neb., and Iowa City, Iowa, the company says. It will continue to distribute in Des Moines.
Happy Again
The PETA complaint against the California Milk Board's "Happy Cows" campaign has been dealt another blow. Last month the State Supreme Court denied review of an appeal in the case.
Good Quarter for Kraft
Kraft Foods Inc., says first quarter profits rose 27% to $713 million. Sales for the quarter gained 6.4% to $8.06 billion. New products, market share gains and price increases contributed to the higher sales, Kraft says.
It's Ecolat in Uruguay
Parmalat Uruguay is now operating as Ecolat Uruguay, S.A., after being purchased recently by Argentine businessman Matias Campiani. The company will continue selling Parmalat in Uruguay.
