Snow Brand Milk Products Co., Japan, will pay a total of 1.1 million Yen (about $9,600 U.S. dollars) in damages to eight of nine plaintiffs who filed a suit with the court in July 2001 after consuming tainted Snow Brand products. The plaintiffs were among the victims of a mass food poisoning in summer 2000 caused by the company. The two sides reached an agreement on Friday. One of the plaintiffs, a 74-year-old woman in Osaka who wants $64 million yen in compensation from the firm, will continue with the court proceedings because her poisoning symptoms were worse than the others, and because her condition is being checked. She was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder in October 2000.
