Starbucks launches ‘super-premium' ice cream

Starbucks Corp. is introducing a new line of “super-premium” ice-cream products in conjunction with its licensing partner, Unilever plc.

The Seattle coffee giant, which signed a licensing agreement with the British food manufacturer last year, said the pints of ice cream will have a retail price of $3.99. Flavors include caramel macchiato, mocha frappuccino, java chip frappuccino and coffee.

In addition, Starbucks also is introducing individual mocha and coffee novelty bars for $2.49 and single-serve cups of java chip frappuccino for $1.29.

“Our new ice cream line is an artful adaptation of some of our most popular hand-crafted beverages,” said Mary Theisen, director of business development for Starbucks global consumer products, in a statement.

Unilever owns the Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Good Humor and Klondike ice cream brands. The two companies already partner on distribution of Starbucks’ Tazo tea products.

Starbucks introduced its first flavor of coffee-flavored ice cream 12 years ago.
