Manufactured with FDA-approved materials, these lightweight and durable units offer dependable, maintenance-free performance and can withstand the use of aggressive manufacturing fluids and high humidity levels. By expanding its aluminum bearing product line, Spyraflo offers customers a value-added plain bearing that meets the strict requirements set by the Food and Drug Administration regarding material composition for these highly regulated industries.

The Spyraflo Aluminum Pillow Block and Housing Flange units use stainless steel housed self-aligning Delrin bearings and have been specifically developed to prevent water, detergents and light contaminants from entering the bearing - constant threats in a wide range of soft to high-pressure washdown environments in food, dairy and pharmaceutical processing,. The unique opportunity to use plain bearings in these harsh applications offer a significant cost savings to users without sacrificing the ability to withstand washdowns and other sources of moisture and process contaminants.

With a limited number of FDA-approved materials and finishes available for use in components used in corrosive processing and packaging operations, Spyaflo’s new bearings offer dramatic cost savings for OEMs. Traditionally, equipment manufacturers are forced to over-specify the bearings needed for these applications by designing-in stainless steel ball bearings in specially treated cast iron housings.

Spyraflo offers a unique and very cost effective solution. Their Aluminum Pillow Block and Housing Flanges are treated by an electroless nickel plating process while using stainless steel, self-aligning Delrin bearings. This creates a highly corrosion-resistant assembly that meets all critical operating requirements, including the very rigorous washdown regimes the equipment is subject to on a daily basis. The Delrin bearing material is ideally suited for applications requiring rotary, oscillating and linear motion. They are maintenance free and lubricated for life. This assures consistently reliable service and long bearing life in the demanding conditions typical of food productions lines.

The Delrin ±5º self-aligning bearing, one of a number of bearings in Spyraflo’s bearing product line, comes in shaft diameters from ¼” to 3/4 “ or 6mm to 20mm . Both the pillow blocks and housing flanges meet all FDA materials requirements. In addition to the food, dairy and pharmaceutical markets, the new bearings are a perfect match for fresh and salt water marine applications aboard both large and small boats, as well as in shore-based outside applications where corrosion resistance is paramount to bearing life.
