Smith Dairy acquires Pacific Valley Dairy

Smith Dairy, based in Orrville, Ohio, acquired Pacific Valley Dairy of Pacific, Mo.

Pacific Valley Dairy makes and distributes quality ice cream mix, frozen dessert products and soft-serve items such as cones, cups, toppings and syrups, and distributes products mainly in Missouri, Illinois, Texas and Florida.

Smith Dairy and its subsidiary, Wayne Dairy Products Inc. in Richmond, Ind., will be implementing leadership changes to ensure successful operation while maintaining the company’s vision and culture, according to Steve Schmid, president of Smith Dairy.

Dan Schumacher and Tim Bacich, who formed Pacific Valley Dairy in 2005, will remain with the company in leadership capacities. Schumacher will serve as general manager of Pacific Valley, while Bacich will be vice president of sales.

Meanwhile, Rich Carr, Wayne Dairy production manager, will be relocating to Missouri to fill the same role at Pacific Valley. Brad Bennett, one of Wayne Dairy’s production supervisors, will take Carr’s place as production manager in Richmond. Wayne Dairy general manager Greg Janzow will expand his responsibilities to include supervision of the Pacific Valley plant.

“Products manufactured in both Orrville and Richmond soon will be offered to Pacific’s customers while we start to distribute a more expanded assortment of premium ice cream mixes in Ohio and Indiana,” Schmid said.

Terms of the deal were not released.
