Process Expo Offers New Pavilions and Programs

    September 1, 2006
Exhibitors to display newest process equipment; programs, pavilions focus on food safety and allergen control

Process Expo 2006, co-located with Pack Expo in Chicago, will offer an expanded array of exhibitors, new pavilions and seminars focused on some of the hottest topics in the food industry.

Process Expo, which is owned and operated by the Food Processing Suppliers Association, will feature over 350 companies utilizing 100,000 net square feet of exhibit space. Process Expo exhibitors will demonstrate state-of-the-art equipment in the fruit and vegetable, beverage, canning/freezing, environmental, instrumentation, prepared foods, can-making, meat, dairy and snack food industries. One registration badge will enable food industry professionals to attend both Pack Expo and Process Expo.

"I think one of the most exciting new things at this year's show is the Food Safety and Sanitation Pavilion," says Stephen Schlegel, pres./CEO of FPSA. "We will also have a Cyber Lounge, where attendees who bring laptops will be able to get wireless internet access. This is probably the only place in all of McCormick Place where you can get wireless access."

Another new feature is the Tasting Center where suppliers of ingredients and flavors will offer free food and beverage samples made using their products. The center will be located on the lobby level exhibit floor of McCormick's Lakeside Center.

    Seminars

Process Expo 2006 will feature an expanded seminar program to provide attendees with the information needed to be more successful. These seminars include:
    • State of the Industry reports from the American Institute of Baking (AIB) and the Food Products Association (FPA), and
    • The Mintel Market Intelligence Seminar Area, which will feature speakers on food industry market trends, research studies, and guest lecturers.

Process Expo will also feature the Food Products Association's "Packaging for Health & Safety" seminar series. Each workshop features a combination of highlights and hands-on information for meeting your food plant sanitation, food safety and food packaging challenges. These programs are geared toward a variety of food professionals including packaging R&D staff, quality control managers; package and package equipment suppliers; labeling/nutrition managers; and GMP & HACCP Managers. The seminars are:

Packaging for the Health of It. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans encourage increased consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while balancing food intake from all food groups with energy expenditure. Both the package or container and its contents have important roles to deliver health through convenience and portion control, and to assist consumers to meet dietary goals. Speakers will include representatives from both food product development (nutrition and safety) and food packaging technology (machinery and package function). Bob Earl, MPH, RD FPA: Session Moderator.

Impact of GMP Modernization on Allergen Control Programs. Current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs) have been the basis of ensuring a safe and wholesome food supply from food manufacturing facilities for over 20 years. The Food and Drug Administration is clearly moving forward on the modernization of CGMPs for food. Jupiter Yeung, PhD FPA: Session Moderator.

Active Packaging - Control Beyond Barriers. Active packaging plays a significant role in maintaining product quality, extending shelf life and ensuring safety from the time the product is manufactured until it reaches the consumer. Recent advances in active packaging have expanded potential contributions of packaging in ensuring product freshness and quality. Speakers will address the technologies and advantages of having additional controls provided by your packaging systems. Jim Charbonneau, PhD FPA: Session Moderator.
