    Swedish Glace alleviates the concerns of those who are lactose intolerant, sensitive to gluten, casein and wheat products, or who are seeking cholesterol-free, vegetarian and vegan-friendly dessert options.

    Swedish Glace Non-dairy Frozen Dessert

    Company: Perry’s Ice Cream Co.
    Location: Akron, N.Y.
    Introduced: January 2003
    Details: Through a partnership with Carlshamn Mejeri of Sweden, Perry’s Ice Cream adds Swedish Glace to its product offerings. Imported from Sweden, Swedish Glace is a rich and creamy non-dairy frozen dessert made with organic soybeans and natural flavors. Swedish Glace comes in four flavors—Chocolate, Mocha, Strawberry and Vanilla—and is sold in 25-oz distinctive reusable octagonal containers at a suggested retail price of $3.99. A 4-oz serving contains 130-150 calories and 13-18g carbohydrate, depending on flavor, and 8g fat.

    European buttermilk, which is often consumed as a beverage either plain or flavored, is made from the slightly acidic liquid that remains after butter has been churned and separated from milk.

    Flavored Buttermilk

    Company: Swiss Dairy Food AG
    Location: Switzerland
    Introduced: September 2002
    Details: Chilled buttermilk is a popular drink in many northern European countries. Swiss Dairy Foods, under the Toni brand, recently rolled out 500ml cartons of plain and strawberry-flavored 0.4% fat buttermilk. Cartons include a cap closure for mess-free shaking and re-closeability.
    Distribution: Select European markets

    Sugar-free Fruit2O Ice includes polydextrose, sorbitol and sucralose in the formulation. A 6-oz cup contains 40 calories, 0g fat and 18g carbohydrate.

    Sugar-free Fruit Ice Bars

    Company: HP Hood
    Location: Chelsea, Mass.
    Introduced: March 2003
    Details: Veryfine Inc., Littleton, Mass., teams up with HP Hood to offer a smooth and spoonable frozen dessert featuring Veryfine’s popular Fruit2O beverage. HP Hood is producing, selling and distributing Fruit2O Ice and Veryfine is managing promotions and marketing. The sugar-free fruit ice cups come in two flavors—lemon and raspberry—and are sold in six-packs of 6-oz cups for a suggested retail price of $3.49.
    Distribution: Initially throughout New England and New York, with a national rollout planned for 2004

    No-name Dairy Drinks

    Company: Brain Twist, div. of The Coca-Cola Co.
    Location: Atlanta
    Introduced: October 2002
    Details: It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s unnamed dairy drinks from Brain Twist. “A great-tasting product and cool packaging were the goals, not some catchy name,” says Larry Trachtenbroit of Brain Twist. There is also Blooo (strawberry/blueberry drink) and Vanana (vanilla/banana drink). The Chocolate Drink is a smooth, chocolate beverage that is 54% skim milk. It is a good source of calcium, potassium and vitamins C and D. Brain Twist was formed by Coca-Cola as a development arm to create and test innovative beverage concepts that can be quickly brought to market. “This is exactly what we were expecting when Brain Twist was formed: Great drinks, speed to market and the ability to think outside the box,” says Everett Darby, v.p., new products & packaging innovation, Coca-Cola North America.

    Cloud 10 Puddings are the first all-natural, ready-to-eat refrigerated puddings to come in gourmet flavors.

    Flavorful Dairy Case Pudding

    Company: Carousel Foods of America Inc.
    Location: Farmingdale, N.Y.
    Introduced: September 2002
    Details: The proof of the pudding is in the eating, according to Carousel Foods with regard to its new ready-to-eat dairy case Cloud 10 Pudding. Sold in individual-serving 6-oz cups, much like yogurt, Cloud 10 Pudding comes in 12 flavors: Banana, Butterscotch, Chocolate, Dulce de Leche, Mocha, Peanut Butter, Rice, Roasted Almond, Super Chocolate, Tapioca, Vanilla Bean and Vermont Maple. Puddings have a refrigerated shelflife of 60 days.
    Distribution: Initially Northeast with plans for national distribution

    Oberweis Dairy

    Noteworthy Introductions

    Oberweis Dairy, North Aurora, Ill., now offers 12-oz single-serve plastic bottles of milk in five reduced-fat varieties—Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate, Reduced-Fat Two Percent and Fat Free—through its Oberweis Ice Cream and Dairy Stores, Oberweis home delivery and at Chicago-area Jewel Food Stores. Oberweis prides itself on the use of fresh milk, milk that typically takes only 36 hours to get from farm to consumers’ tables. The company works exclusively with more than 40 local family farmers who provide milk from cows not treated with artificial bovine growth hormone and antibiotics.

    Dannon
    Tarrytown, N.Y.-based The Dannon Co., introduces Fruit Blends, rich and creamy low-fat yogurt that guarantees fruit in every spoonful. Fruit Blends come in 6-oz individual cups and in six-packs of 4-oz cups. The new product includes Dannon’s new packaging and new look initiative for single-serve cups, which features color-coded lids, eye-catching graphics and a consistent single-serve size: 6 oz.

    Wells' Dairy
    Blue, the loveable star of the popular Blue’s Clues kids’ show is at it again. Wells’ Dairy Inc., Le Mars, Iowa, is giving Blue her very own ice cream flavor—a yummy blue vanilla ice cream dotted with Blue’s Clues paw print sugar cookies. Packaged in square half-gallon containers, Blue Bunny Blue’s Clues ice cream joins Wells’ other Blues Clues product: Blue’s Clues Cool Tubes (a blue raspberry sherbet treat).

    Anderson Erickson
    Anderson Erickson Dairy Co., Des Moines, Iowa, adds Pineapple Orange Banana flavor to its Fat Free Yogurt with Soy Protein line. Each 6-oz cup contains 6.25g soy protein, along with 6g fiber and 30% of the Daily Value for calcium, 25% DV vitamin D and 50% DV vitamin C.
