Artisa fine curd cottage cheese, produced by Smith Dairy Products Co., Orrville, Ohio, is a new all-natural and slow-cooked cottage cheese that has a creamy, fine-curd texture and features fruit on the bottom.

It’s available in six flavors: pineapple, strawberry, wild berry, raspberry pomegranate, peach and apple cinnamon. The cottage cheese is about 50% smaller than standard small curd and is slow-cooked for about 8 hours, according to the company. Its all natural, with no preservatives or additives, and free of artificial growth hormones (rBST).

According to the company, the product is unique to the industry because of its 5.3-ounce transparent single-serve cup. The clear packaging was chosen after 18 months of researching consumer attitudes, preferences on cup and lid styles, and participating in focus groups — all which contributed to the final design.

Penny Baker, director of marketing at Smith Dairy, said that a recurring theme in the company's research was that consumers like to see what’s in the package.

The cottage cheese contains 15 grams of protein, 1.5 grams of fat and as little as 8 grams of sugar (depending on the flavor) per 5.3-ounce serving. It will be available mid-May in grocery stores throughout northeast and central Ohio for a suggested retail price of $1.49.
