Watson-Marlow Pumps Group, a world-leading positive displacement pump manufacturer, announces that its line of MasoSine pumps is ideal for the transfer of cheese curd, providing customers with a higher quality product and increasing yield.

The MasoSine pump’s large open cavities, a constant displaced volume, and gentle transfer of product from inlet to discharge transfers curd with little damage, producing a higher curd yield and fat content, and lowering the amount of fines created during transfer.

The MasoSine pump design features a single shaft and single sinusoidal rotor. The undulating contour of MasoSine pump’s unique rotor gently transports product through the pump while still maintaining the product quality. Reduced curd damage results in fewer fines lost to the whey stream, which increases the cheese yield. The product is also of higher quality because undamaged curd absorbs dressing more uniformly and requires less dressing, improving the appearance, consistency and quality of stirred curd products. Reduced fines, which can plug the drain table, means less down time and greater productivity

The MasoSine pump’s powerful suction reduces cavitation. The smooth, constant suction allows for superior product handling capability, maintaining curd integrity in the transfer process. With little to no cavitation, there is less system wear. Shock to system piping and potential pump damage is prevented, even where the pump is required to empty multiple vats with long suction runs. Pump efficiency is also increased, so slower operating speeds can be used to accomplish the same task.

The MasoSine pump is capable of being cleaned-in-place (CIP) and MasoSine offers various CIP modifications depending upon the product being pumped and the cleaning protocol used.  It is also easily disassembled for manual clean-out-of-place (COP). An end cover hinge is available to assist with regular cover removal for COP.

MasoSine positive displacement pumps are the result of more than 25 years of engineering innovation and product development. The MasoSine pump’s exclusive sinusoidal rotor overcomes the limitations of conventional rotary lobe pumps to produce powerful suction with low shear, low pulsation, and gentle handling, along with simple and fast maintenance, and certification under 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. (3-A SSI), the industry standard for food sanitation and hygiene.

With a single shaft and rotor, there is no need for the complex timing gears and multiple seals associated with conventional rotary lobe pumps. One rotor, one shaft and one seal equate to simple and economic maintenance.
