CoolBrands International Inc. <.b> reached a settlement agreement with Weight Watchers and Wells' Dairy and will no longer manufacture or sell Weight Watchers and Smart Ones trademarks as of May 1. Further details were not disclosed, but in a lawsuit filed last fall, CoolBrands had sought $360 million in damages from Wells' and Weight Watchers over the timing of the transition of the contract.

Dutch dairy Campina, is investing roughly $75 million into its whey processing and food ingredient facilities in Veghel, The Netherlands. The major part of the investment lies within the upgraded processing of whey, which the company says will result in new and unique whey based ingredients for the world-wide food and nutrition markets.

A California state water regulation agency has fined Hilmar Cheese Co. $4 million for what it describes as illegal wastewater disposal on area fields. Hilmar issued a statement saying it was reviewing the proposed fine and expected to have a water treatment facility operating in a few months to solve the problems.

Brazilian milk product exports in January grew by 258.8 % to $11.5 million, the Brazilian National Confederation of Agriculture said recently. Meanwhile, Brazilian imports of milk products also grew to $12 million in January from $7.6 million a year earlier. Brazil's eastern state of Minas Gerais is the largest milk producer among the 26 Brazilian states.
