Doing More with Chocolate in Dairy Foods
   About two years ago, chocolate milk was identified as a post-exercise recovery aid in a paper published in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism (16: 78-91), based on research coming out of Indiana University.
   "When you play sports, it's essential that your bones and muscles are strong," said Stephanie Brooks, a registered dietician and founder of Bay Area Nutrition, Campbell, Calif. "Chocolate milk does this best."

Anderson Erickson Fiesta
   Anderson Erickson Dairy, Des Moines, Iowa, rolls out chocolate milk with a hint of cinnamon. Sold under its Hispanic-influenced brand Anderson Erickson Fiesta, this new 2% reduced-fat gourmet chocolate milk can be served cold or hot and can be warmed in the microwave. Fortified with vitamins A and D, and claiming to have 38% less fat than whole milk, carton labels describe the milk as having "ridiculously high standards."

 

Philadelphia Ready-To-Eat Cheesecake Filling
   Philadelphia Ready-To-Eat Cheesecake Filling from Kraft Foods Inc., Northfield, Ill., now comes in Chocolate Dream flavor. Each 24.3-oz tub is described as being enough to fill a graham cracker crust for a quick, simple and delicious almost-homemade pie.

 

Swiss Valley Farms Cherry Chocolate Milk
   Davenport, Iowa-based Swiss Valley Farms is well-known for its great-tasting chocolate milk. The company's proprietary recipe results in a chocolate milk that is smoother, creamier and lighter in color than many others in the marketplace. In efforts to attract more consumers to the category, the company markets seasonal Cherry Chocolate Milk in quart gable-top cartons.

 

Schwan's Dessert for One
   Schwan's Dessert for One Chocolate Supreme Frozen Dairy Dessert is now available from Schwan Food Co., Marshall, Minn. This indulgent product is described as a delicious light and creamy mild chocolate frozen dairy dessert with a swirl of marshmallow and only 100 calories per 4.2-oz cup.

 

Belgian Chocolate Mousse
   British-based Tesco's new U.S. retail chain fresh&easy Neighborhood Market debuts a variety of dairy foods that are very successful in the United Kingdom. This includes Belgian Chocolate Mousse. This perishable product comes in multi-serve 5-oz tubs. For the winter holiday months the outer package was decorated with appropriate festive swirls and twirls. The company also has a chocolate pudding, which comes in 6-packs of 4-oz cups.

 

Trader Joe's 4 Blissful Ice Cream Bars
   Specialty retailer Trader Joe's, Monrovia, Calif., specializes in selling high-quality foods under its own store label. Most recently the company debuted a line of frozen novelties. The range includes Trader Joe's 4 Blissful Ice Cream Bars, which is comprised of rich vanilla ice cream dipped in very dark chocolate. This kosher-certified product comes in four-packs of 3.75-oz bars.
