Small-scale dairy farmers in Kenya are seeking about $650,000 to revive the Kitinda dairy plant that collapsed more than a decade ago. A former Kenya Dairy Board technical mgr. told the reporters that the plant was processing at least 10,000 liters of milk before.

”Dairy farming was the main income earner for many families in Bungoma before the Kitinda milk processing plant collapsed,” he said. New Kenya co-operative Creameries (KCC) was willing to establish milk coolers at the Kitinda plant.

“This is rare goodwill in which a milk processor supports a potential competitor,” he said. He urged the Kenyan government to give financial assistance to the dairy cooperatives.
