Portola Packaging

Portola Packaging of San Jose, Calif. recently introduced its SCIII plastic closure. The SCIII is a two-piece, tamper-evident snap-on closure consisting of an inner pull-ring seal and a resealable screw top overcap. To open the package, the consumer unscrews the plastic overcap and then removes the inner plastic seal with the pull-ring. The consumer reseals the bottle with the overcap. The SCIII provides consumers with the perceived freshness and security benefits of an induction foil seal, but is easier for consumers to open and for bottlers to apply. Another benefit of the SCIII is the elimination of the common consumer complaint of dried milk that appears as white flakes on the bottle threads. Because milk never has the opportunity to come into contact with the threads on the SCIII, there are no white flakes. The SCIII is currently used to seal HDPE and PET bottles of milk and liquid yogurt.

Alto Plastics Ltd

Alto Plastics’ 43-mm foil piercing sports sipper cap will soon have company: A 38-mm version. Three actions let consumers enjoy their favorite beverage without laboriously removing cap, peeling back foil, then replacing the cap before drinking. All they do now is press, click and sip. Pressing down the nozzle perforates the foil seal applied to the container neck allowing the product to be consumed through the sipper nozzle. From here the nozzle can be pushed down to reseal. Another special feature is the locked in, internal sipper nozzle design that has a safety feature of 30kg+ pull-off force to prevent separation from the container.
